Beautiful song to kick off this cold Tuesday morning.. I like the crisp winter (already?!!) air - it somehow feels cleaner and fresher. More significant for me right now is the change of metaphoric seasons, winter, through the death of things, strips us naked to look at the very essence of who we are, naturally allowing for introspection, self-examination and the opportunity to start again, I guess. Time is that which allows healing, spring does not come before it must and so one is to embrace the cold outside and inside as the very nature of that which is life. Hmmm.

I’m absolutely LOVING this cool and fun tongue in-cheek wedding of ‘Mr and Mrs Pants’ (via Wedding Friends | Mr & Mrs Pants | Adrian Shields Photography). It’s SO refreshing to see people just be REAL and have everything on their special day be a true reflection of themselves!

I can just imagine how this couple will always look back at their wedding day and remember fun, happiness, joy and LIFE - when they’re old, they’ll recall what crazy kids they were - and their wedding pics will never date, or look corny!

Wow - this is so inspiring and beautiful via Green Renaissance . Man, I find the ‘world’ we have created so filled with irony. I cannot understand how people (and I was one of them and still sometimes get caught up in it) can walk through life consumed by materialsim, a desire to get things, give their LIVES to buy STUFF (money is energy/time = life), can murder, kill, steal to have things - again, the irony is that we, humans, have built this value system, that creates such want for objects that life has been devalued to this point.

WE are responsible, and as we continue to consume, fill our minds with crap, so we become that which disconnects us from everything that is truly beautiful.

When I think about value in things, I always think about the moment before I’m going to die, what I’ll wish I’d done more of.. I wonder if those driven by money and power lie there thinking, damn, and just one month before the new Porche Cayenne was due for release, aghhh! (or Mini, or VW or tuned up Ford - materialism is materialism no matter what social class you are in) or man, if only I had the chance to go for one more pedicure. I mean seriously? I still don’t get that to be honest, walking past a shop where women sit like pampered queens while some poor sod pushes back her cuticles because she’s too bloody lazy to do it herself. I know, I’m stepping on some toes now, aren’t I. But that’s the point really.

Think of it, why are you (or me) so important that our time/life is more valuable that the beggar on the corner? Who decided that bullshit? And why do we just go along with it? We have access to information, we can chose to become more conscious or to just close ourselves off and ‘conform’ because it’s easy and we like things really. (and no, I’m not launching a debate on lazy people who don’t wish to work - that’s for another debate, I spent 4 years in France socialism doesn’t work either and creates lazy fools who expect hand outs).

There are so many important things we could fill our time and our lives with, but we don’t - and yes, changing isn’t easy in a world that does not necessarily facilitate it - but when the shift is made, then it becomes easier. And the more people that shift and lead the way, the easier it will become. (I know, nothing new, just true).

Ok, so this post got much more reflective that just sharing the initial video - perhaps it’s the weight of the world not ending last week that opens more serious question of what are you going to do this next year to be better? Kinder? More real? More generous? Or are you going to party and celebrate your victory - woohooo, we’re still here, look how amazing we are…. oh, oooh, there’s another hurricane, flood, tsunami.. but that’s got nothing to do with me..

Let’s replace arrogance with humility, a desire for gaining things with a desire to sustaining life, complacency with activism - I’m not saying bring out the cardboard and pens and start picketing, but think about, research and start talking about these things, stop being lazy and LIVE a real meaningful life.

Phew, ok. I’m done for now.

I’m all for SLOW-anything at the moment - being Christmas again (like already, seriously?!!) I can’t help but have the deep desire for life’s pace to knock it back a notch - or fifty.

I know that age and relativity have much to do with the feeling of speed, but then so does information overload and fast consumerism-driven living. But before I go off on a philosophical tangent about how I am so ready to change my life completely, and how we all should be living consciously, I leave you with this.

Yes, go forth and shop this Christmas, but support those who follow their passion, take time and make things with love and thoughtfulness, who are not driven by a desire to make barrels of money, but rather a desire to make pretty or different - and of course, who actually give a damn about the environment, people, and are active in driving some sort of change in the crazy fast-paced world we live in.

Phew.

I was absolutely delighted when I came across this fabulous shoot by South African photographer living in London, Heline Bekker.

The shoot has been titled Mermaids, Seashell and Seahorse inspired - how utterly divine. Just love it. Totally and utterly. But then you got that already - didn’t you!

So any of you who follow my I Love Fabulous blog - will know that I just die for Sequin. Oh my word, so when I saw this dress by Charlotte Wilden, I did a back flip. Off my chair. From the seated position. In my head.

I just love love LOVE this dress and wish I could just play in it for a little bit. Run on the beach maybe, or lie on my sofa and ring a little bell and hope someone will arrive holding a silver tray with some freshly backed biscuits, still hot from the oven and a cup of tea for dipping. Or one of these most delicious Seahorse-dancing-on-air cupcakes from the appropriately named cake company Delicieux (yes that’s that word in French.)

Oh wow - how beautiful is this cake table!

I love the hanging babies breath balls - which is what we did for that cake table at Claire and Daves Wedding and inspired these balls that I made (that are for hire from I Love Fabulous).

Heline and I e-met and I got to ask her a few questions:

Where are you from? I’m originally from Cape Town and I’m a farm girl at heart.

Where do you live? We now live in London (*where she has been living for the past 10 years)

Where do you work? I’m a photographer, so I will work where ever you want me to :)

What do you love best about shooting a wedding? I love the special moments. I love it when people get swept away by the moment and really embrace the love and joy of the day. I love photographing that.

What inspires you? Oh, so many things! Nature, sunshine, dusk, dawn, love, unique people, the ocean and the simple things in life.

South African ladies - you’ll be happy to know that Heline is going to be in Cape Town in November 2013 - so if you would like to book her for a couples, wedding or baby/family shoot - best you get in touch with her now!

Real Wedding: Bianca and Sean Seery

On Saturday I Love Fabulous styled another wedding at the beautiful Silvermist Mountain Lodge in Constantia. It was a such a lovely sunny day and the venue dressed up in all kinds of pretty.

Preparations began late Friday morning with hanging up the Chinese lanterns. We had 35 in total - all suspended at different heights and in clusters of different sizes to create a floating effect - dressing the ceiling without using draping (I am SO not a fan of traditional draping. Bleg.)

The effect was absolutely stunning, and we brought in a white dancefloor - which went superbly with the newly painted white doors at the Silvermist Treehouse venue.

Bianca and Sean wanted to pull through a music theme - so the table’s were named after their favourite bands with LP place setting for which we designed custom labels. Sean is British and Bianca is from Cape Town - so we overlaid the british flag on table mountain - we also used this theme for the seating plan, were we hung mini LPs in a small tree - each with the names of the guests at that specific table.

The look took on a bit of a retro feel (Instagram helped with the pics ;-) and we brought in a vintage suitcase for the gifts.

All in all a great success and this is what the bride and groom had to say - which made my day!!!

“Hi, thanks for the beautiful display you put together for us. It was exactly how we’d wanted it it to be. Amazing! B&S”

I’m looking forward to seeing the official Wedding photos which we will share as soon as we have them!
